About Aman....

“Sometimes it takes a whole life time to know someone.Sometimes just one look is enough!”

Honestly, I haven’t still managed to get this section done properly. But this is my best attempt so far.

It really sounds so simple that one can say a lot about his/herself once given a chance; but trust me it’s not really that easy. When first time I tried to write down this About Me, I was completely lost. I literally had no clue where I should start and where I shall finish. I could manage to write just a few lines only.  And I didn’t like what I wrote.

If you have already visited here, you must have read some snippets. It took me a while to figure out and polish a little what I wrote before. Since I am not really someone who likes to talk a lot about myself, writing  this section was the hardest.

Anyways, here is what I have come up with. It’s not complete me but still, I have tried to tell you about me as much as I can in a few lines and paragraphs. So what’s coming next is most of me….

Who am I?

I am Aman Sharma. I live in North India. I have been using and doing this computer stuff for around 20+ years now if memory serves correctly.

I was born and raised in Punjab. I have spent my entire childhood over there only. As I fall into January, it makes me an Aquarius, an Air element zodiac sign which is mostly calm and probably borderline eccentric. If you want to read more about how Aquarius are, check this post and also, this one.

About My Educational Life

I shall start by revealing a little secret. Most people around me think that I am so very much intelligent. I am always humbled but I never could understand why? And the reason I am always surprised is because there is never anything that I did of such sort that I can feel the same myself. So with that fact out of the way that I am NOT intelligent, let me share my educational life so far. I did my graduation in the Science stream. Besides that, I was also trying my hands with this computer stuff. Though it happened absolutely by accident. A friend got me enrolled in a computer class and somehow, I got so much interested in these bits and bytes stuff.  Thus I opted for my master's in Computer Applications only. As I went deeper and deeper into this IT arena, I tried my hands with mostly everything-whatever that was there at that time when I was getting started at least. You name it and I probably had done it to some extent. But finally, I got myself focused on Oracle Database and Solaris Operating System. In case you already don’t know, Oracle Corporation is 2nd largest IT company in the world and a leader in database technologies with their flagship product, Oracle database. Solaris Operating system (with the latest release, Solaris 10) is amongst the most powerful and reliable operating systems in the higher-end server operating systems from Sun Microsystems. After many years, I stopped using Solaris and switched to Linux. Still too technical? Okay, I do some computer stuff. How’s that?

My Interests

Yes, I do have interests beyond the bits and bytes of computers and the list is not small at all. You may laugh though. Ready? So here it goes….

  • 3C’s( Cartoons, Comics, Comedy)

Starting with the 1st C, I love to watch cartoons. I can watch them anytime, anywhere. I am way past that age now (borderline now to be called old) but I still love to watch animated movies or cartoons if they are coming on YoutTube or telly. In general, I love every cartoon but I do have some all-time favorites i.e. Buggs Bunny, Tom & Jerry, Johny Bravo, Dexter, Mickey, DuckTales. Just a few to mention.I guess I must stop here only cause in attempt to list a few, I shall miss most of them. Going to the next 2nd C, I love to read comics. I read so many in my childhood and this did continue beyond my school life also; up till when I joined college. But afterward, with busy routines and increased workloads, I had to give up upon them. But I still love them and never miss a chance to read the one whenever and wherever I can. My last C must be obvious to you-I love to smile and like all around me to be happy too. And that’s why I love comedy. I guess we all have a child somewhere in ourselves who loves to play around, play pranks on others, and be happy and carefree. I try to never stop that child of my heart so you can always find me doing something naughty and exceptional.  Well if you know about the Aquarian zodiac- that’s what we Aquarians are famous for! As I just said, life is already so much tough and one must never miss the slightest chance to have a smile and to share the same with others. We may not be able to do it often but we can at least and I just try to do my bit only.

  • Sports

I am a die-hard fan of strength sports. And in them, I absolutely love Martial-Arts and Kabaddi. I practiced martial arts for almost 7 years and kabaddi for almost 2 years. I did manage to achieve my 1st-degree Black Belt in Shorneio-Subukan form of it. I had to leave practicing both cos of my work routine and lack of time but I still never miss watching either of them, either on tv or in a live competition. Besides these two, I really like football. It’s pretty famously said in India that it’s like committing a crime that if you don’t know and play Cricket if you are an Indian. Well, I am then guilty of committing this sin cos I never did play cricket and honestly, never did like it actually much. Yes, I do watch some snippets of a cricket match if it’s really a big one whenever I am around for a few overs. But don’t count on me for sitting for a complete inning, I may find a way to excuse myself.

  • Music

Music is one of the most powerful mediums which affect one’s soul to the deepest levels. I am a music buff. Basically, I like all kinds of music but I am a little(actually a lot) biased toward Punjabi music. But what I am going to hear, it depends on my mood. In general, all types of music is my favorites except Rock. I don’t like Rock much. In specific, I like soulful, melodious music with lyrics that touch heart and soul.

Some of my favorite songs are a mix of both old and new times. And to give an idea that I do listen to other songs as well besides Punjabi songs, here are few which I do like and can listen to anytime i.e. “Tum meri bahon mein aa na sake“,”Tumse mujhe pyar kyun ho gaya“, “Tere bina zindagi se shikwa“,”Ya dil ki suno“, “No body wants to be lonely”, “Words”, “ Spanish Guitar” etc. The list is huge and it’s important for me to mention, I don’t just listen to sad, slow songs. It all depends on the mood and I prefer to listen songs mostly which have good lyrics and also have a very good, upbeat kind of music.

  • Movies & Television

I don’t watch much of both either. Whenever I am free, I love to watch martial-arts movies and kabaddi matches. But for the movies, I do watch comedies,  cartoon movies, adventure, and even horror movies too. I  do watch the fiction movies and have seen the most recent series of Avengers and other of such sorts. Some of the most favorites movies are “Mohbbaten”, “DDLJ” , “Baby’s day out” , “Nimo” , “ 50 First Dates”, “John Wick”, “The Equalizer” .

I don’t watch much television. Whenever I am watching it, you can catch me watching music channels, news, Discovery Channel, Cartoon Network, and Disney Channel. I don’t watch daily soaps much. And yes game shows, talk shows, music shows, and all sorts of shows are a complete no-no for me.

  • Reading

I am an avid reader. Magazines, comics, novels, story books, articles, blogs, anything goes for me. That’s why my Kindle is always having at least one book which I haven’t read yet.  I like novels by Sidney Sheldon, Sophie Kinsley, John Grasham, Mike Lee, Lee Child, and James Patterson, and the list is looong. Apart from these- autobiographies, love stories, self-help, and poetry are food for my reading appetite. My favorite book is “The Alchemist”.

Since now, I spend most of my time learning, using, and teaching Oracle database and its related tech, I read lots of Oracle database related books and it’s documentation manuals.

And I have co-authored two books also. Not really a novel or a love story but both are Oracle database related tech-books. If you are interested to know about them, check the link-My Books and let me know if you have bought both or at least one of them 🙂 .

How I Spend My Time

When I am not teaching Oracle tech-related classes or studying Oracle, you can find me sitting in front of my laptop surfing the net and playing music besides doing so. I love to stumble upon sites of my interest. Mostly they all are related to humor, jokes, poetry or random articles about life, and love. I love to read so it’s a good way for me of spending my time.

If I don’t feel like sitting in front of the laptop or doing nothing at all, then I go to Starbucks or Café Coffee Day . I am an avid coffee drinker. If there is any place that serves good Coffee and I am around that place, I make it a point to visit there. So you will find me holding a large cup of coffee-mostly Black, hot, or cold which depends on the weather with headphones over my ears. Usually, I shall be reading from my Kindle something.  If won't be reading anything then will just sit and watch people. As silly as it may sound, it’s the best thing to do. There is always something happening in front of you to make you smile.

If I am not on the internet or not in a cafe then look for me in some park sitting on a bench. That time, I am just with myself, thinking about myself, what I have done, and what others have done. Mostly it’s almost doing nothing important but sometimes, it may involve planning for the future. But most of the time, it’s just me sitting with myself doing and thinking nothing at all.

You must be thinking up till now, all of the things that I have told you, I didn’t reveal anything about me being with my friends, hanging out with them, or anything like that. Well, let me clear all the doubts, I love to meet new people and make friends and I have a long list of them. I am lucky that I have so many people who love me so much. Whenever I get time, I am with some of my closest pals. But if no one is around, well I told you where I shall be, right?

Where do I See Myself In the Future?

The future is really something that can’t be defined and bounded by any boundaries. It certainly can’t be decided too. Yes, I have some plans and goals that I have decided for myself but it's better to keep them a secret for now. Let's see where life takes me? Yes whatever I shall be doing, I guarantee you that it will be with full passion and dedication.

My Mantra for Life

My life and I are not really limited to one thing or aspect. I love to learn new things, expanding my horizon of knowledge in every aspect. Life is so short and this world is so big. There is so much out there to learn. My mantra for life is that believe in yourself, stay focused and keep going. If you know what you are doing is not wrong then don’t be afraid to do it ever. Have faith in yourself and in God. Value your relations and the people in them. Help those who need you. Give smiles and spread happiness as much as you can and it will come back to you in doubles. And even if doesn’t come back to you, at least you will be able to sleep with peace that what you did was the correct thing to do and if for whom you did that, he/she doesn’t value or understand it may be someday, they will understand you.

Wow, we have come a long way since the first line of this page, didn’t we! And you must be waiting to hear that this is the end of this About Me page. But hey….

Wait I have something About You too….

By all this while, I have come to know about you also something. You have a lot of patience that you read till this very line. I do hope I didn’t bore you- at least not so much!  Thanks a lot for stopping by here and spending time reading this rather very long page. I do wish you all the best in whatever you decide to do and hopefully, we may meet sometime soon in person. Till then- Au Revoir!!

PS : Don’t leave without saying Hi :-).
